Google throws its hat into the TV ring (um, panel?)

Google recently announced it was venturing into the crowded waters of television by producing a gadget called Google TV. From what I can gather, this will be a set-top box that will allow you to use Google to search for fun online video content that you’ll be able to show on your television.

Here’s Google’s video promo:

My biggest concern is what video that’s on the web — that most of the time looks like total shit on a 19-inch PC monitor — is going to look like when it’s blown up to 40 or 50 inches? Is there really a need to see the Dramatic Chipmunk blown up to Transformer size on an HDTV?

This idea exists in a more limited fashion with Sony’s Playstation Network and Microsoft’s Xbox Live. And lots of newer Blu-ray players have Internet connectivity to allow for the downloading of Netflix on-demand movies and Hulu content. So Google TV might be a nice next step in the evolution of the concept of media or technological convergence.
