For designers and architects alike, good quality 3D printers are hard to come by at an affordable price. Form 1 is a high-quality printer created by researchers at the MIT Media Lab who became frustrated at how difficult it was for others to obtain good equipment. A visual comparison of the old 3D printers beside the new one is shown in the Kickstarter campaign, and the cheaper one is immediately noticeable to be visually better, producing a smoother, softer finish.
The Formlabs Form 1 3D printer has intuitive software, which makes the setup a lot quicker, giving people more time to design than fussing with the machine. Taking over a year of laborious experimentation, Formlabs is now adding the finishing touches to the much-anticipated revolutionized printer.
I’m not sure anyone realizes how big a deal 3D printing is going to be once it goes mainstream. It’s going to be a seismic change in our society and how we obtain and create things.
